On Monday, November 20, the RWC Summer British Study Abroad Program will hold an open meeting for all students who are interested in participating in the 2001 trip to Ireland and England. The meeting will take place at 2 p.m. in Room 351 Muntz. Students will have an opportunity to meet the faculty in the program and hear about the courses and travel plans.
Two courses will be offered: a History course on Irish and English immigration, to be taught by Professor Andrea Kornbluh; and a Literature course on James Joyce and D.H. Lawrence, to be taught by professors Marlene Miner and Mike Roos.
The group will spend two weeks in Ireland and two weeks in England, with a full slate of field trips planned throughout the trip. “It will be a fast-paced, exciting adventure,” said Professor Roos, who is coordinating the program.
The cost is expected to be around $2,500, including airfare, room, board, and ground transportation. Tuition for the courses, which will actually begin during spring quarter, is extra.
Roos said that the program has applied for a grant from UC’s Institute of Global Studies and Affairs which would reduce the cost to around $2,000 per person, if the proposal is accepted. The College should know by December whether the grant proposal is approved.
Those interested but unable to attend the meeting should contact Professor Roos in Room 142 SAHB, 745-5764, , for brochures and application packets.
The application deadline is February 15. Enrollment will be limited to the 30 top applicants.
