Leslie Roland: student/tutor/poet

If you haven’t been in the Writing Lab this quarter then you haven’t met Leslie Roland. She is not only an amazing writer but also an an amazing person who has just had her first poem published in an African-American publication called Dialogue. She was dared by a friend to submit two of her poems, and one named “Solomon” was selected.

“People today have come away from making something beautiful,” Leslie says, referring to modern poets. She prefers more classical poetry such as Byron, Frost, and Yates.

Outside of working eighteen hours a week in the Writing Lab and taking classes, she is raising a six-year old daughter named Cezare. Leslie is a Social Work major with aspirations to be a Clinical Therapist.

She has been writing poems since she was eight and has just begun a novel, whose subject is still under wraps.

Leslie’s talent for writing is a unique gift that just comes out and flows naturally. She loves to write and enjoys helping others to bloom as they experience her enthusiasm for writing.

Remember the name Leslie Roland, because ten years from now it might be synonymous with the likes of Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou!
