Course to teach life saving techniques

Beginning March 27, the RWC Allied Health programs will be offering a First Responder certification class. The course will run through August 2, on Thursdays, 12:30-4 p.m. First Responders are members of the Emergency Medical Service system, which provides emergency medical care to persons suffering injury or illness care in an out-of-hospital setting. Skills learned include the taking of and monitoring of vitals, airway management, bleeding control, stabilization of fractures, bandaging, usage of an automated defibrillator, and assisting in childbirth.

Classroom instruction is done by skilled faculty members with knowledge in emergency medicine. Methods of instruction include numerous hands-on learning time for students to master their skills. The class can be used for a three-credit hour elective.
