This is the third and final of the series offering descriptions of classes being offered by The Center for Prehospital Education. This article will describe the Session III Paramedic classes. The Session III classes are the final stage of the whole Paramedic certification process experienced by students. Upon successful completion of this 45 credit-hour course and the National Registry Exam for the Paramedic Exam, students will have the opportunity to apply for Ohio paramedic certification.
The first Session III class being offered is Paramedic Theory III, worth five credits on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9 p.m.
The second class being offered is the Paramedic Lab Practical III class, worth one credit, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9:30 p.m.
The third and final class being offered is the nine-credit hour Paramedic Clinical Education III class. Days and times for this class are yet to be determined.
These Session III classes are part of the Paramedic Education program. Paramedics are a critical component of the Emergency Medical Services. The skills taught to students in the Paramedic program include the following:
* Adult and pediatric assessment.
* Management of trauma and medical emergencies.
* Cardiac rhythm interpretation and monitoring.
* Emergency pharmacology.
* Advanced airway control techniques.
This program is accredited by the Ohio Department of Public Safety and nationally by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP).
The program will cover a ten to twelve month period, depending upon certification requirements and other contributing factors. Admission to the Paramedic Education Program is selective with limited enrollment. Yearly classes are conducted each fall.
