This summer has RWC Professor John McNay very busy. He will be teaching a new history course here called An International History of the Second World War and his first book, Acheson and Empire, The British Accent in American Foreign Policy, will be pulished by University of Missouri Press. Next summer he will be offering the course on the Second World War in England as part of the RWC Summer British Study Abroad Program. The class this summer is a Topics in History III class and will be offered the third 3 1/3 week term (August 6-28), Monday-Friday, 9:30-11:20 a.m.
The class will take an international approach, unlike many American History classes, with a blend of readings and films. Also emphasized is the affect on today’s society from the Second World War.
Professor McNay received his Ph.D. from Temple University in Philadelphia and his specialty is U.S. Foreign Policy.
Professor McNay says, “The continuing interest in the war is reflected in the spate of movies that have recently come out, ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ ‘The Thin Red Line,’ and now ‘Enemy at the Gates’ and ‘Pearl Harbour.’
