To the Students of Raymond Walters:I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support this year. Your participation in our round table discussions and support of our events, like “Letters to the Troops” and the collection of personal care products for Mary Magdelene House, have allowed us to have a successful year. We have represented your interests in areas such as the Student Lounge, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Student Services Advisory Committee, and the Building and Grounds Committee. We have, along with the Student Life Office, purchased a pool table for the Student Lounge. We have shouted that students have great ideas about the future of the college and want to express them to the Strategic Planning Committee. We have pointed out the challenges of childcare for students with early and late classes. We have represented a student initiated change in the college posting policy. This is our legacy to RWC.
It is now time to pass the torch. Last year Student Government was highly criticized for being uninvolved and inaccessible. This year we have strived to overcome this perception. We hope this will continue into the future. But for this we need your support and participation. The majority of current Student Government Executive Council will be moving on to four-year colleges next year. Therefore, it is up to those students who will be returning next year to carry on. If your Student Government disappears, it is because you have not done your part. Again, now is the time to act.
The Student Government has begun its election process. If you are interested in holding an office or just participating in Student Government, let us know. If you have no representation, there will be no one to blame but yourself.
Petitions to run for offices are available in the Student Government Office, Room 102A Muntz Hall. Candidates must declare their intentions by April 27. Campaigning will begin May 7, and the elections are scheduled for May 15 and 16.
Thank you for your support,
Amy Phillips
President
Student Government.
