Adjunct’s new novel explores privacy in the Electronic Era

Dr. Robert T Jones, RWC Adjunct faculty member in Speech and Communication, takes on the privacy of the electronic era through a brand new novel he has published titled “The Oval Web.” From his background in broadcasting and fascination with politics and media ethics, Jones began his novel in 1994 out of an interest in the growing threat to our privacy.

“Since I started “The Oval Web” in 1994,” said Jones, “The threat has grown even bigger. I don’t believe that the average person has any concept of just how fragile our privacy is. Anytime we talk on the phone, use a computer, or interact in any way with electronic media, somebody is probably watching or listening.”

Perhaps George Orwell’s “1984” came out too early, and we are just at the begining of the “Big Brother is watching” era.

Jones’s novel is set during a nine-day period, when Derrick Wyler, anchor of the CTN Evening News, discovers that Roland Andersen, President of the United States has created an office in which the White House is capable of spying on every citizen.

This brand new novel will be debuted by the RWC Bookstore on May 9. Dr. Jones will be available in the Bookstore between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to sign copies of “The Oval Web.
