E-media students at work on degree projects

The clock is ticking for E-media students who plan on graduating this June. The Electronic Media Technology degree project is a major requirement for student graduation and is designed as a tool to induce a real world project environment. The E-media students have been hard at work since February of this year and some of the students even started on their projects as early as last summer. The project itself takes form in various stages. After the student comes up with an idea, he or she must complete a project description, treatment, project budget, budget summary, personnel summary and a degree checklist.

After the preliminary paperwork is approved the student begins a pre-production process, which mainly consists of gathering information and materials that will aid with production.

Next, comes the production process, which is the actual hands-on gathering of video footage, audio, photography and other material.

The final stage is post-production, in which the final cuts and material are assembled to become the finished product. After the project is completed, the media student will present his or her piece to a panel consisting of E-media faculty and industry professionals, who give the student feedback and decide on his or her final grade.

There is a positive outlook among the students as many of them are nearing completion. E-media student, Brian Hannon says, “The degree project is a great opportunity for us to showcase our skills and talent.
