Anyone who has spent a late night surfing cable channels has probably come across one of those films presented in Professor Mike Sander’s course “American Film Noir.” My personal favorites are the films made from James M. Cain’s hard-boiled novels-“Double Indemnity” and “The Postman Always Rings Twice.”
The Film Noir course will be offered on Thursday evenings 6-9 p.m. and will run for five weeks beginning January 3.
This seminar will examine the influences that were brought to bear on the American Film Noir, including German Expressionist film, Italian Neo-realism, and American crime films, as well as “the hard-boiled crime fiction of Chandler, Cain, and Hammett.
