Linkin Park is making their place in music

For this review, I decided to give Linkin Park’s album “Hybrid Theory” a try. At first, I thought Linkin Park would be another rap-rock group like Limp Bizkit or Papa Roach, but after listening for a while I realized that this band has potential.

The members of the band are the following: Rob Bourdon on drums, Brad Delson on the guitar and bass, Joe Hahn on turntables, Mike Shinoda as emcee and vocals, and Chester Bennington as lead vocals. Linkin Park shows what can be done fusing rock with rap, electronic, and other new sounds that have been barely tested.

The band’s sound is a bit catchy. Linkin Park blends hard-core rock, hip-hop, and electronic music. It is difficult to classify into one particular genre. This L.A. based band combines provoking rhymes and melodic vocals with neck snapping beats plus vicious guitar rifts. It’s the kind of music that makes you want to run into a mosh pit.

The lyrics add an angry tone to music. For example in the song “One Step Closer,” the lyrics shout, ” Shut up when I’m talking to you.”

Overall, I would give Linkin Park’s “Hybrid Theory” a grade of a B-. I expected a little variation in their songs. After a while I felt like I was listening to the same thing over and over. Then again, they put a twist on their sound that will definitely encourage bolder music in the future.
