I pose a question for you. Should I be held accountable for my parents’ actions? According to the Federal Government, or whoever is in charge of financial aid, I am to be held accountable.
Financial aid is for students who live in families that can’t afford to pay for college or for young moms trying to raise a family and still better themselves or for married couples who want to attend school.
Financial aid serves an important role in society for those people. Unfortunately I do not fall into any of those categories.
You see my parents are reasonably wealthy and could afford to pay for my college, but won’t. They won’t because I have not lived with them for two years, because I claim myself as a dependent, and because I am not a child anymore. But, according to the government, who never looks at the person behind the form, I do not qualify for enough money to even pay for a quarter of school.
This is just another case of the federal government trying to keep the Average Joe from succeeding. I would probably sue if I could afford a lawyer.
