How to beat holiday shopping stress

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The holidays are creeping up on us, which means it is time to shop. Here are some tips to keep your holiday shopping stress-free and low budget to make your gift giving a success.1) Start early! Nothing is worse than going to the mall during the last two weeks before Christmas.

You drive around the parking lot for an hour, only to hike a mile to the mall entrance. Once inside, you are surrounded by screaming children waiting anxiously to see Santa and by many other customers who, like you, are there on a mission.

Then you run into the parents that are not even considering leaving until they have the hot toy of the season, like Furby or Tickle Me Elmo, in their possession.

2) Set a limit. Know how much you would like to spend on each person. Try not to go overboard, because it is your credit card company that will be reaping the benefits in January.

If you find a deal, do not feel guilty about not spending as much as you like. If you try to make up the couple of extra bucks you saved on a sweater for your sister by purchasing matching socks, you’ll only end up going over your limit. Remember that it is the thought that counts.

3) Go shopping alone. This way you avoid peer pressure to do any extra spending. Also, you only have to look for the presents you have to buy. This will save you time and energy.

The Internet is a great place to look for bargains. No traffic, no crowds, and no lines. It is easier to turn down an item if you have not spent all day hunting at the mall for it. There is always the risk of the presents not being delivered on time, so once again shop early!

4) If your wallet is drained and you cannot think of the perfect gift, be crafty. Homemade treats make wonderful presents. Just buy some cute decorative plates and fill them up with cookies, candies, and fudge. The thought, effort, and taste are always appreciated.
