On January 23, chamber-rocker Annika Bentley appeared on campus as the free spaghetti dinner disappeared. In RWC’s spacious new Student Lounge, students, faculty, and staff mingled and enjoyed contemporary tones and complimentary food, courtesy of RWC’s Student Life Department and Student Activities Committee.Occasionally joined by her bass-playing mother on vocals, Annika’s voice is strong, yet soothing. Accompanied by her Rochester, NY, band, they collectively present themselves as a set of talented musicians that skirt the sounds of popular music without buying in to its monotony and commercialism.
RWC was just one stop on her current tour, which will take Annika throughout the Midwest and surrounding areas until mid-spring. If you would like to catch her live, your closest bet will be at the University of Dayton on March 19.
Or you can order her CDs online, including “Leisuretron” (Live), “See You around, Lifeguard,” “Eye of the Beholder” (a compilation of regional artists), and “With Leak, Blink and Breath” (which is also marketed in local stores), at www.annikab.com.
