If a proposal currently in front of RWC’s Faculty passes, the first change to the Faculty Executive Committee’s bylaws in over a decade could allow representation of adjunct faculty. The key rationale behind the proposed addition is that adjunct faculty teach 40 percent of all courses at RWC. Presently, the Executive Committee is composed of nine full-time faculty members, who are elected, and one student representative provided by the Student Government. The adjunct representative, elected for a two-year term, may be any adjunct faculty member who has been employed at Raymond Walters for a minimum of six quarters. The adjunct will be extended “full voting rights except for matters concerning faculty committee appointments and elections,” the same rights given to the Student Representative.
The amendment was officially introduced at the January Executive Meeting and will be voted on when the committee reconvenes in February. However, unofficially, committee members have been discussing the possibility of adding an adjunct faculty representative for some time, and the general consensus is that the proposal has merit and will be passed.
