An instructional video created last summer by a studio seminar class of the RWC eMedia Tech program won several important prizes at the video competition of the 2001 Communicator Awards on January 4 in Arlington, Texas. This work was a parody of the instructional films produced in the 1950s. Much of the archival footage used was from Program Director Mike Sanders’ own collection. Original scenes developed for the video were shot on location at the eMedia Tech’s studio.
In addition to Mike Sanders’ direction, plaudits must go to the production team: Paul Brown, Bob Ishee, Erissa Mackaron, Andrea Rahtz, Lee Thompson, Inger Williams, and Scott Williams, all of whom are majors at the eMedia Tech Program.
In developing the script, the students performed these technical aspects of video production: digital graphics, digital audio production, and offline editing. The story was written by Inger Williams and Scott Williams, along with professor Sanders. The editing was accomplished by Sharon Mooney, who is an eMedia staff member and an adjunct instructor in post production of video.
The project competed against entries from 47 states and 11 foreign countries. These are judged by industry professionals, so these awards carry a lot of weight in the video marketplace.
In all, four honors were won-two Crystal Awards of Excellence and two Awards of Distinction. The categories for the Crystal Awards were “Creativity-Humor” and “Educational-Student Produced.” For the Awards of Distinction, they carried the field in “Creativity-Writing” and “Educational-College/University.”
