Stephanie Yockey: “Heart of gold

Stephanie Yockey, a former RWC student and staff member for the Activist, died suddenly on Monday, April 8. In addition to working on the student newspaper, Stephanie also worked as a tutor in the Writing Lab.

“Stephie loved us,” said Maria Damen, with whom Stephanie worked in the Writing Lab. “She loved RWC. Some of the happiest and best years of her short life were the ones she spent here.”

Stephanie was a student in the Vet Tech program and was honored with a student award recognizing her volunteer spirit, dedication, and her “heart of gold.”

“She was a truly beautiful and rare individual,” said Damen.

Memorials may be made to the family. When Stephanie died, she had no insurance, neither life nor health.

“She had started a new vet tech position and was in the process of completing the 90 day waiting period,” said Damen.

The College is collecting donations for Stephanie’s family. Anyone who would like to participate may bring a contribution to the Writing Lab, Room 112-I, Muntz, and sign the sympathy card. Checks may be made out to Jane Yockey. The Writing Lab is open Mon.-Thurs. 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Fri. 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
