On Thursday, October 24, RWC Chemistry Professor Janice Denton had her credit card stolen out of her purse, which was in an unlocked drawer in her office.Professor Denton had left the office between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., and when she returned, everything looked to be in place. At that point, she said she had no idea that $5618 had been charged to her account at 3:50 p.m. She thought the card had been lost, and she had just called her credit card company, at 5:15 p.m., to cancel the card. She was also informed that, under the terms of her credit card agreement, her liability was only $50.
Professor Denton immediately notified campus Security, who are conducting an investigation. At the time of publication, Security was unavailable to comment about the theft or the investigation.
