This article, from a previous issue, is being re-printed with the following corrections:RWC Professor of History Dr. James Cebula was recently chosen–not named–president of the Ohio Conference–not Chapter–of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).
The AAUP has over 50,000 members nationally. Originally founded in 1915-not the 1920s-the AAUP seeks to preserve national standards of academic freedom, involve educators in institutional governance issues, and insure academic due process. The Ohio Conference–not Chapter–founded in 1949, “serves as coordinating body for all AAUP activities within the state”.
Cebula, a member of the AAUP since 1969, has served two terms as president of the U.C. chapter, on the National Council, and on the National Executive Committee. According to Cebula, participation in the association is a way of going above and beyond the normal duties of an educator.
“It’s service to the profession,” he said.
