Janelle Steele was a leader. She was a woman with a vision. As an RWC Nursing student, she wanted to give nursing students a voice, and she passionately fought and persevered until she brought that vision to recognition through the Student Nursing Organization (StuNO).Nursing Professor Jan Neal said, “I have never seen anyone so determined to make something ‘work!'” Janelle organized StuNo from scratch, the first of its kind for the RWC Nursing program. She took the new board members to the 2001 State Convention and came home with three state board positions.
Although she graduated last June, Janelle was so dedicated to the Student Nursing Organization that she acquired the position of convention planner, and the Ohio Nursing Student Association’s 2002 convention was held here in Cincinnati this past October.
Tragically, Janelle died of a sudden heart attack just five days before the convention. She was well known for her leadership and dedication to StuNO and RWC nursing students. She will be missed by many and will not be forgotten as the founder of RWC’s Student Nursing Organization.
