“Cool as Ice,” in spite of the acting

This issue I decided to review an older movie, but one that is not that well known. Everybody knows of the former rap star that is now venturing into the world of rock and roll, right?

I am talking about Vanilla Ice. You remember his hit single “Ice Ice Baby.” Not to mention the copyright scandal that he participated in. Back in 1991 Rob VanWinkle, a.k.a. Vanilla Ice, starred in “Cool As Ice,” his first and only acting role.

If you have ever seen this movie, you would know why it is his only one. But, in spite of the lack of good writing and acting, I enjoyed watching this movie very much–in part because of the laughs that I had at the actors and in part just because of the nostalgia of seeing Vanilla Ice in full effect.

Johnny (Vanilla Ice) is a bad boy motorcycle-riding musician who makes a heartfelt connection with a straight-A high school student, Kathy. His only dilemmas are her snobby rich boyfriend and overprotective parents. These prove to be only minor setbacks. After all nothing can stand in the way of true love.

I will leave you with a simple phrase: “When a girl has a heart of stone, there’s only one way to melt it. Just add Ice.
