With over 160 tee shirts, the RWC International Student Club (ISC) worked with Mr. Jean-Robert Cadet in helping Restavecs in Haiti. Restavecs are children who are used for slave labor in Haiti. Born in Haiti and having been a Restavec, Mr. Cadet, Adjunct Professor teaching French, has made it his mission to end child slavery in Haiti.
The ISC was able to secure excess tee shirts left from the Cincinnati Walk As One event held in October. Members of the group met, folded the tee shirts, and stuffed each one in a plastic bag.
Mr. Cadet, who was made a representative to Haiti by the UN during the summer, will transport these tee shirts to Haiti and distribute them to outcast Restavecs who are now living in a shelter.
Other Restavecs, who are still working for their masters, may be allowed to attend a school for Restavecs two hours a day and may also receive some of the tee shirts. The slave children will benefit from these tee shirts, according to Mr. Cadet, as many have only rags for clothing, given to them from their masters.
