College celebrates African American Heritage Month

The religious, African, and Caribbean roots of African American culture will be highlighted during this year’s celebration of African American Heritage Month. On Wednesday, February 19, Minister/Singer Karen Woods will grace the audience with renditions of Negro spirituals and hymns that played a significant role in African American history. Having appeared on both national television and local radio stations, Rev. Woods will lend her professional and uniquely talented voice in portraying the role of such songs in the lives of African Americans as communication, spiritual healing, and indeed survival. Rev. Woods will perform in the Muntz lobby from 12-1 p.m.

The African and Caribbean lineage of the African American culture can be tasted in a sampling of dishes that stem from their past. Catered cuisine will emphasize the spices and foodstuffs that originated from parts of Africa and islands of the Caribbean, where much African American ancestry lived and were traded.
