RWC’s Behavioral Sciences Department will be offering two Special Topics courses this spring. The first, Special Topics in Sociology: The Sociology of Religion, will focus on how religion influences people’s behavior and attitudes. There will be an emphasis on classical sociological theories of religion such as Marx, Durkheim, and Weber.
This course is being taught by Dr. David Aveline and will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11-12:20 a.m. An evening section will also be offered on Wednesday from 6:20-9:00 p.m.
The second course being offered is Special Topics in Criminal Justice: Correctional Program/Treatment Approaches. This course will review and assess existing correctional treatment modalities and programs in a variety of institutional and community-based settings, both adult and juvenile.
Traditional coursework will be augmented with several field trips to adult and juvenile correctional facilities, and students will be expected to design and present their own correctional treatment program as part of their overall grade for the course.
Only one section of this course will be offered on Wednesday evenings from 6:20-9:00 p.m. The instructor is Joe Zurad.
Both of these courses are listed under their respective disciplines in the RWC Spring 2003 Class Schedule.
