Electronic Media Communications Department declares independence

It is a little-known fact that the Media Services Center, which includes the Electronic Media Technology program, used to be housed under the Library. On January 7, 2003, the faculty and staff of the Library unanimously agreed that the Media Services Center would embark into their own new territory, separate but symbiotic to the Library.
The proposal, proffered by Stephena Harmony, the Library/Media Department Director, created a split within the department. Two separate academic departments were formed: the RWC Library and the Electronic Media Communications Department. The separation will allow the departments to “streamline operations” and focus on creating more educational opportunities for the students, according to Director Harmony. Other reasons for the change include the prosperity of the Electronic Media Program and the revisions to the Library Technology program curriculum.
This decision will not affect students in any way. The media collection will continue to be stored in the Library for students to access and technology assistance equipment, such as televisions and computer carts, for faculty can continue to be reserved at the Media Services Help Desk located in Muntz 113.
