Student Government sponsoring Monday March Madness

You may not have noticed, but Student Government has been sponsoring “Monday March Madness,” an event for students, faculty and staff each Monday in March, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., by Ray’s Cafe. The series began March 3, with the ‘Come in From the Cold’ event, in which free hot chocolate, tea and coffee were given out. The March 10 event was the first UC/Cincinnati Trivia day. Students and faculty could win a prize just for attempting a question about UC, RWC or the City of Cincinnati. RWC Dean Barbara Bardes provided most of the give-aways, and the College Relations staff helped with the questions.

The last ‘3M’ event (as Student Government has come to call them) is designed to allow the RWC community a chance to give something back. On Donation Day, which will be Monday, March 31 (the first day of Spring Quarter), Student Government will have a jar on the table to take up collections for the American Cancer Society (use your ‘pocket change to make a change’).

There will also be a collection of a completely different sort. The Government is asking students, as they head off for Spring Break, to take just a moment and make a choice that will make a big impact on someone else’s life. They will be accepting donations of personal toiletry items (the little soaps and shampoos provided in hotels), which will then be donated to local homeless and drop-in shelters.

“These items are a great resource to those less fortunate,” said Student Government Senator Tim Bentley, “especially when they need to clean-up for potential job interviews. So you can actually feel good this time about taking all the soap and shampoo from the hotel where you stay!”

At each event, Student Government also has Letters to the Troops, and petitions for higher education funding that will be sent to Ohio state legislators.
