This past week’s Career Fair “went well” according to the Career Counseling Services Office Manager, Tresha Lewis. Of the many students who came to the annual event, many received interviews from the thirty employers who were in attendance. The annual fair, with employers representing a wide variety of careers, is good both for the employer and the students involved. However, according to Lewis, unlike past Career Fairs, the number of employers in attendance has decreased. Since the downturn of the economy started a couple of years ago, there have simply been fewer job openings, and, to paraphrase Lewis: employers are simply not as willing to come to events such as these for that reason.
Nevertheless, the students in attendance and the employers, many of whom, according to Lewis, were impressed at the bearing of the students, thought that this year’s Career Fair was a success, in spite of the present circumstances.
On a side note: students, do not be discouraged if you have not found anything. For those who have not done so already, post your resumes on the internet by using the website www.CollegeCentral.com/UCRWC. According to Lewis, the site is apparently being well-received by the students using it.
