Hard to control laughs during “Anger Management

Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler have teamed up together for the first time to create a hilarious duo in the newly released film “Anger Management.” The film hit the big screen on Friday April 11 and can now be seen everywhere. Jack Nicholson portrays the therapist Dr. Buddy Rydell with a shrewdly erratic temper, who goes about treating his patients in a very peculiar manner. His patient is none other than Adam Sandler, who takes on the role of Dave Buznik.

Dave Buznik is a guy who is just trying to get by, a man who takes the cards as they are dealt and plays them, hoping that the good things in life will come his way. For such a meek and mild man, Buznik’s temper can become severely explosive after having played the doormat one too many times. Throughout the movie, the slightest things will set him off in a fit of rage, and you will find yourself laughing at the oddest of scenes.

Sandler is sentenced to complete twenty sessions of an anger management course after a flight attendant mistakes a tap on the arm for assault during a flight. After desperately trying to plead his case to the judge again, Sandler loses his case through misunderstandings and is then sentenced to a thirty-day intense session of therapy with the explosive Dr. Rydell.

Although Sandler only shows brief glimpses of rage, the scenes are funny enough to draw anyone who is in search of a little laughter to the theater. Sandler and Nicholson continuously play off one another, feeding off each other’s humor and talent. One of the most humorous aspects of the movie is that, throughout the entirety of the film, you’re not really sure if Sandler is actually the one who is in need of therapy.

The film is filled with many scenes that will leave the audience doubled over in a chair. The scene where the doctor insists on sharing a bed, naked, with Dave, is one of the greatest, but I won’t give that one away. Make sure you get to the theater on time so you won’t miss Sandler explaining to the Judge why he took a blind man’s cane during a bar fight. I give it three out of four stars.
