An event is always significant when it consists of watershed moments, and that is exactly what an awards night is supposed to be. At RWC’s awards night, held on May 16, students, their families, and faculty members congregated in the Muntz Hall Theatre to illustrate a point: “Each day… brings you closer to your dream,” according to Donald L. DeArmond III, Student Government Vice President of College Community Relations.
But, in order for a dream to be realized, as Pamela Lineback, the RWC Interim Associate Dean of Student Affairs, noted: “inspiration” and “enthusiasm” have to be attributes in the dreamer.”
John Kramer, Director of Disability Services, probably best articulated what the prerequisites of success are when Lineback read from his poem, the “Gift from Giving”–to “share oneself” and create an “inside change.”
That was what the awards night at RWC was essentially about. Students gave themselves a chance when they made a concerted effort to improve their standing in life, but in order to truly “leave a mark on mankind” (Gift from Giving), one should also make a conscious decision to help others. Whether that decision involves helping family members, helping students, or helping a somewhat oblivious commuter college in the eyes of a university become recognizable, the students, professors, and faculty members did just that as the list of the below award winners will indicate.
