The sixth annual NASD (National Alcohol Screening Day) will take place on Thursday, April 8, 2004 during Alcohol Awareness Month. RWC will be interviewing students, staff and faculty on this day. Don’t panic; participation is voluntary and anonymous.
The interviews will take place in 100 SAHB from 8-6 p.m. and in 111 Muntz from 8-4 p.m.
Participants will be asked to complete a survey on risk factors of becoming an alcoholic. All students, staff and faculty are welcome even if there is no apparent problem. It is not, however, an attempt to offer diagnosis. Instead, it is centered on being an Education and Awareness Day.
NASD includes educational video presentations and hand outs, a brief voluntary self-assessment survey to be completed anonymously, a short screening interview with a health professional and referrals if needed. It is an opportunity to point out to participants the presence or absence of symptoms indicating the likelihood of an actual or emerging alcohol problem and to offer a referral for further evaluation.
It may offer help to some individuals and be a learning experience for others. Some professors are offering extra credit for educational purposes. In any event, it won’t hurt to check it out, so stop on by the locations mentioned above and participate in this event.
