Help is On the Way

Meet our VISTA (Volunteer In Service To America), a division of Americorp, Malia Bajpai. She is a political science major from the University of Dayton and is working with Helen Kegler on a program geared toward helping incoming freshman.
The goal of this new offering is to give students the best possible chance to finish their post secondary education. The class being created will incorporate not only academic matters, but also let people know where they can go for other kinds of assistance should they find themselves in need, for social or personal problems. Another goal is to familiarize students with options in cases of problems or emergencies.
According to Malia, “We are developing it from the ground up.” She says that the development and research stage of the project is almost complete. The remaining work is focused on getting the class offered and going through the necessary bureaucratic steps to address issues such as, when it will be offered, finding a teacher, etc. The hopes are that it will be rolled out by next fall.
What makes Malia so qualified for this assignment? Being a recent college grad, she feels strongly about this program. She says that had this type of class been available to her during college, she would have had more success and probably graduated sooner.
She also has a lot of experience in volunteer work, having been to several countries on various missions.
The work that Malia is doing for RWC will benefit students long after her task is complete. Extend your welcome and thanks for her contributions to our school.
