When I was growing up, “Scooby-Doo” was the best cartoon as far as I was concerned. Maybe that is why I felt obligated to see the Scooby-Doo movies, including the latest.
In this sequel, Mystery Inc. is confronted with all the ghosts that they took on individually in the past. The difference is that this time they had to deal with them all at the same time.
The plot revolves around a masked monster who has created a machine that brings the previous villains to life in order to destroy the small town of Coolsville. Once again the gang faces monsters like the Pterodactyl Ghost, The Black Knight Ghost and The 10,000 Volt Ghost.
While all of this is going on Scooby-Doo and Shagy (Matthew Lillard) are trying to prove that they are not complete losers, and belong in the gang.
The plot is further complicated by the presence of reporter Heather Jasper (Alicia Silverstone), who is on hand to scrutinize the gangs detective skills.
It adds up to a very funny movie for audiences of all ages–especially those of us who loved Scooby as a child. Some of the jokes that are made for only the older people (kids) to understand make us laugh and sail right over the heads of smaller children.
We’re not talking a Hollywood classic here, but “Scooby Doo 2” gets a firm 3 1/2 starts out of five. If you liked Scooby in the past, and are looking for a good laugh, go see this movie.
