Poetry Month Wraps up

On May 3 our writing lab was transformed into a New York style Poetry Caf, complete with the ambiance you would expect. As the room filled with poetry enthusiasts and the lights dimmed we were treated to a night of good music, good food, and good poetry.
Musical guests included Michael Roos, who played several of his greatest hits and the world debut of “Buddha.” Jazz saxophone artist Tony Malone got the audience involved during his performance of “Freedom Jazz Dance.” And Spiritual duet singers Deborah Meem and Lois Shegog made us all laugh with their plea to vegetarians to let the vegetables free.
Then at the heart of the event were the poetry readings. The session was open mic and we heard from RWC legend Slammin’ John Kraimer, as well featured Poet Michelle Gibson. Gibson read selections from her work, while offering the motivation behind them. After her readings she also took questions from the audience.
After the feature poet concluded, winners of both the student and employee contests were announced, prizes presented, and some of them read their award-winning work.
