Concerned about Student Loans? House Republicans are pressing a proposal made by President Bush that would eliminate your right as a student to consolidate student loans at fixed rates. Bush’s proposal would leave the student borrower vulnerable to thousands of dollars in high interest payments. Not a surprise, since Bush has placed his interests with bank lenders and not the average citizen.
Let’s face it, student loans are a big enough burden after graduating and obtaining an entry level salary. Inflated interest rates simply add insult to injury. Bush’s proposal is a direct hit to your future financial stability.
Have you registered with Selective Service? With Bush dictating our involvement in Iraq, the war might be something you’re engaged in rather than watching on the evening news. Bush has recklessly alienated the world community and left the United States to foot the growing monetary cost projected to reach $200 billion by the next fiscal year, if the current plans for spending are followed. The number of American soldiers and Iraqi civilian lives lost is only going to increase with Bush’s haphazard handling of the war, and it is not inconceivable that your involvement will be obligatory.
We cannot believe that Bush, who made the mistake of getting us into disaster by deceiving the world, has the ability and foresight to get us out. The Bush administration has burned bridges and is simply incapable of turning these relationships around, not that there has been any mention of a desire to do so.
John Kerry has the ability to change the course of this war by building relationships with those now refusing to deal with Bush. Kerry can offer more than the knee-jerk, heavy handed reactions that have left us in a frozen state prohibitive of progress and security for the future of our country, as well as the future of Iraq.
Bush has had four years and is now promising that if he is allowed another term, he can actually get something done after the only thing the Bush Administration has been effective in accomplishing is catastrophic error and continued deception.
Can we look into the eyes of our soldiers and Iraqi civilians and tell them that their lives are worth taking a chance on another four years of failure? We owe them a change, and John Kerry can provide the effective leadership that Bush has claimed, but has been unable to provide in action.
