College hosts foreign language workshop

Over 100 foreign language teachers from the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area attended a workshop sponsored by the RWC Foreign Language Department. The workshop was held on the RWC campus on Saturday, October 9. Tom Alsop, adjunct instructor in Spanish at Butler University and Director of the Indiana University Workshop for Spanish Teachers in Mexico, was the speaker. His workshop, entitled “Recipes for Successful Foreign Language Classes,” provided teachers with an array of hands-on activities and ideas for lesson planning, grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading, writing, video, and the Internet. He also encouraged teachers to create their own learning strategies in the “Creative Moment.”

Professor Judy Baughin, Chair of the RWC Foreign Language Department, called it a “successful workshop, where teachers had the opportunity to share ideas and learn new strategies and techniques that they could apply to their own classroom situation.”
