The Liberal Arts classes assigned to all degrees here at RWC are designed to give students a wider understanding of the world we live in, according to RWC History Professor Andrea Kornbluh. Knowledge in subjects such as art, history, and philosophy not only broaden the mind, Dr. Kornbluh said, but also show future employers that applicants have the ability to educate themselves.
On a more personal level, Dr. Kornbluh added, students learn skills in these classes that will better equip them throughout life to deal with new situations and controversies and also to be able to analytically sort through information on any subject matter.
This quarter, according to Dr. Kornbluh, there are 231 students enrolled in the Liberal Arts program here at RWC, making the program the second largest transfer program in the college. Once requirements have been completed, students may transfer with two years towards a bachelor’s degree to McMicken College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Kornbluh said that plans are being made to give Liberal Arts students a sense of identity and to develop the community as a whole. Brochures are being designed and ideas such as meetings and outings are being considered. This will give students an opportunity to connect with others who pursue common interests.
