The RWC Peace Steering Committee reports that the RWC Community has donated a total of 326 cases of nonperishable food at the official close of the “A Case for Hunger” food drive to benefit the Free Store Food Bank. “We were aiming for a minimum of 100 cases to be raised for donation, but [the College] far exceeded that goal!” said Helen Kegler, who spearheaded the food drive. Dean Delores Straker expressed her congratulations and sincere thanks to Helen Kegler, who also heads the RWC Office of Multicultural Student Affairs.
Kegler, speaking for members of the Peace Steering Committee, expressed gratitude to offices, departments, classes, and individuals who contributed to the drive.
In addition to the nonperishable food donations, $160.45 was donated in cash and checks. The total cash amount spent for the 326 cases of food donated was $1,303.31, not including three groups who purchased the cases of food themselves.
Kathy Greenberg, a Free Store Food Bank representative, visited the RWC campus near the close of the food drive and expressed a heartfelt thanks for the generosity of RWC students, faculty, and others. She was impressed with the level of support and involvement at RWC, and in turn made calls to three other local campuses sharing what she called “the phenomenal success” on our campus during the food drive for the Free Store Food Bank.
Ms. Greenberg was able to refer to the success at the RWC campus and asked the other campuses if they would be interested in embarking on a similar project for the approaching holidays.
