UC Police and Public Safety wants to help students avoid being victims of a crime. Officer Barb Henson said that, with the holidays just around the corner, her office is providing crime prevention pamphlets with tips students can use at school and at home to make the holiday safer.
The green crime prevention pamphlets will be available in the lobbies and throughout each building. Here are some of the tips included:
1. Do not bring your valuables to campus if possible.
2. Keep cash and other valuables out of sight (including Christmas presents).
3. If you do not carry your belongings with you, lock them out of sight.
4. Do not leave your books unattended. Also, mark them so they can be identified if they are ever lost or stolen.
5. Walk in well lit areas, preferably not alone.
6. Know the location of the help phones or the nearest available phones. (There are rescue phones in many of the stairwells, which ring in to the Police Department.)
7. Report any suspicious activity to the police by calling 911 or 745-5707 or 556-1111.
“Together we can keep our campus safe from crime,” Officer Henson said.
UC Police is located in Muntz 134. The office provides escorts to vehicles by request. It also controls the lost and found and has an inscriber on hand to mark belongings.
