A new class for Liberal Arts students has been approved by the RWC faculty and is scheduled to begin next fall. “Introduction to Liberal Arts” will be required for all new Liberal Arts students beginning in Fall Quarter 2005 and is highly recommended for students already within the program. According to Prof. Kornbluh, the class is designed as a “concrete place where every student will get a feeling of what they are doing in the Liberal Arts program.”
The class will be a one credit class and only open to students matriculated into the Liberal Arts program. To ensure that all have an opportunity to complete the class, it will be offered each quarter, alternating between day and evening classes, with a new topic at the beginning of each year.
The class will be team-taught by faculty from two different Liberal Arts disciplines and will include a required field trip to a cultural institution such as a museum, musical performance, theatrical production, film, or literary reading.
The class itself will require readings from two disciplines and will be held as a seminar with mainly open discussion. Information will also be included on the Liberal Arts program in general and on the future opportunities this degree provides students.
