On Saturday, March 5, the UC Department of Women’s Studies and RWC will be hosting the annual Women’s Film Festival. The event runs from 1:30-10 p.m. at RWC, Muntz Hall, and will include a variety of films. “Every year the Women’s Study faculty likes to bring a collection of films and videos made by independent film makers, which otherwise would not be seen in Cincinnati, and which look particularly at women’s experiences,” said RWC History Professor Andrea Kornbluh. “There will be a mixture of films from many [parts of the world], including Iran, Afghanistan, Africa, India, and the U.S., with the purpose of giving a global picture of women and their situations.”
Included in the 16 films that will be shown are “Afghanistan Unveiled,” filmed by the first ever team of women journalists trained in Afghanistan, and “Ferry Tales,” which exposes the secret world that exists in the powder room of the Staten Island Ferry.
The Film Festival is free and open to the public and Prof. Kornbluh says that each year the event “has given the college an opportunity to reach out to the community to spend time with us.” Last year’s event was attended by “roughly 500-800 people,” she said.
