“Hitch” is a lot of fun. The jokes work, all the actors that are supposed to have chemistry do, and the heart warming ending is not cheesy. Will Smith is in his element as Alex Hitchins, New York’s undercover date doctor, helping hapless nerds catch the woman of their dreams by coordinating their first three dates. Hitch only works with guys who “love women,” thus giving respectability to his prescribed manipulations of the female psyche.
The film centers on Hitch helping Albert Brennaman (Kevin James), a shy and overweight CPA, to seduce his dream girl and tax client, Allegra Cole (Amber Valletta). However, Hitch also finds himself falling in love with the tough, cold Sara Melas (Eva Mendes), a notorious NYC gossip columnist, and Hitch is treated to a dose of his own medicine.
Hitch is fun, and it works well as a film, definitely worth $8.
