Summer class offered on sociology of economics

The RWC Department of Behavioral Sciences will offer a special Topics in Sociology course for Summer Term 2005. The course, titled Economics Sociology, will look at such issues as what is social about production, distribution, and consumption and how money pervades social life. The course is an introduction to the major strains of thought and central research problems in the field of economic sociology, with a particular emphasis on markets.

The study will consist of the role of money in a wide variety of arenas, including politics, history, finance, race, gender, education, family and religion.

According to Behavioral Science faculty, the course is relevant to undergrads majoring in any of these fields, while at the same time providing exposure to a critical perspective that is particular to the social sciences.

The course (#SOC372) is being offered during the 1st half term (6/25-7/23) on Saturdays 8:30 a.m.-noon.
