Letter to the editor: Security responds to Bookstore story

Dear Activist:Just to clarify a few facts about the bookstore thefts occurring at Raymond Walters which was printed in the last Activist: we only have two information reports on suspicious activity which occurred in April.

The Bookstore is equipped with cameras which are recorded out here as well as main campus. The Bookstore also has its own loss prevention department, which runs out of the main campus bookstore. [UC] Public Safety responds to all calls to investigate the situation.

The Bookstore does call about suspicious activity. We have not had any reports of student’s books being stolen, but we do recommend that [students] mark [their] books so [they] can identify them if they are ever lost or stolen. This makes it easier to identify them.

Marking a book will help in the prosecution if they are attempted to be sold back by someone else and [the owner of the book] files a report of a book being stolen. Remember to check with lost and found if you misplace your book, because we do have several books turned in each quarter to our department.

Sincerely,
Officer Barbara Henson
