Two minutes doesn’t really seem like a lot of time, that is, unless you so happen to be holding the football with less than two of these ‘short’ minutes on the clock during a three point defecit. On the night of October 9, the longest Cincinnati Bengals winning streak since 1988 was broken by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The game started slowly. Jacksonville’s relentless defense targeted star player Chad Johnson with double coverage from the first whistle, effectively crippling his legendary gains. The score remained bleak well into the second half and almost through to the end of the Fourth Quarter. Cincy made a quick series of plays off a punt return to bring the score up to 23-20 with five minutes left, advantage Jags. The Bengals defense made a solid stand against Jacksonville, crippling their yardage. Possession was quickly recovered and field goal range was quickly attained. On a freak dodge, Quarterback Carson Palmer lowered the ball to dodge a tackle and the ball was knocked free from the rear. The Jags then killed the remaining minute on the clock.
On the brighter side, the Bengals have proven themselves to be a different team than we have seen in recent history–players taking pride in their city and sport, while proving to the people who love them that they are worth the effort. With a 4-1 record, first in their division, and still climbing, the Bengals truly seem to have their sights set for Super Bowl glory. Who-Dey!
