Allied Health offers two new courses for health professionals

The RWC Allied Health Department is providing two new three-credit hour health care courses: Introduction to Health Professions and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. According to Professor Julie Gill, Introduction to Health Professions is best for students pursuing or thinking about pursuing a career in health care. “The class will teach students ways they can be excellent future employees,” Gill said.

Students looking into jobs where a respiratory or cardiac emergency could occur, such as paramedics, nurses, dental hygienists and allied health personnel, should look into the new Advanced Cardiac Life Support course. While learning the importance of teamwork in emergency cardiac care, the course also emphasizes airway management and the importance of oxygenation and maintaining circulation of the blood, and an introduction to recognizing and treating potentially dangerous heart rhythms.

“At completion of the course, students will be presented an ACLS card,” said Professor Alan Mistler.
