All right, folks, I know you have heard this before, but I’m going to say it again: final exams are right around the corner. I know that for most college students grades mean a lot. Maybe some students need a certain GPA to stay in a certain major or fraternity/sorority, or need good grades to keep financial aid, or maybe they strive to do well in school.
Whatever the case may be mid-term and final exams in most cases account for almost 50 percent of your final grade, so it’s a good thing to be prepared for them.
Being a student myself, I know the anxiety of test taking, but for me test taking hasn’t posed much of a problem. For me the problem has always been homework and getting it in on time. Even though my test taking skills may be okay, there is always room for improvement, and I know some people dread the thought of taking a test. In some cases I have seen people threaten to drop out of school if they don’t pass a certain exam. I also see a lot of people crying over how badly they thought they did on an exam.
People, help is on the way. The College Study Skills Lab in Muntz is always willing to help students with any test or exam. The lab provides what is called Test Review Service, which is a unique opportunity for students to meet one-on-one with an Academic Tutor to review previous tests they have taken and work on different strategies to help students improve their test performance and reduce test anxiety.
Test anxiety often results from poor test preparation, lack of test taking skills, and a negative attitude. The Study Skills Lab is great at covering all of these topics with students.
Bottom line, folks: we all have worries about taking tests. Face it: tests are not the best things in the world, but, with help from a tutor in the College Study Skills Lab, test anxiety can be an easy thing to overcome.
So to all the students in the midst of final exams, study smart, not hard, get a good night’s sleep, eat a good breakfast, and please don’t party the night before; it’s worth it not to. You can party your head off the night after. Good luck.
