UC Police offer holiday safety tips

UC Police and Public Safety want to help students avoid being victims of a crime. With the holiday just around the corner, the UC Public Safety Office is distributing green crime prevention pamplets with safety tips to assist you with making your hoiday safer. Here are some of the tips that are listed in the pamplet.1. Do not bring valuables to campus if possible.

2. Keep cash and other valuables out of sight. This includes Christmas presents.

3. Do not leave your books, purses, or belongings unattended. Remember to mark your property so that it can be indentified if ever lost or stolen.

4. Walk in well-lit areas and preferably not alone when possible.

5. Carry your cell phone in your hand, so it is available if you ever need it. If you do not have a cell phone, know the location of the help phones when on campus or the nearest avaiable phone. At RWC we have blue help phones throughout the lots and areas of rescue phones in several stairwells in SAHB and Muntz that ring directly into the UC Police Dispatch Center.

6. Carry your keys in your hands to get into your vehicle more quickly. Your keys can also be used as a self-defense tool.

7. Report suspicious activity to the police by calling 911.

UC Police does provide escorts to vehicles by request. We also control the lost and found on campus, and we have an inscriber to loan out if you want to mark any of your belongings.

Together we can keep our campus safe from crime over this holiday season and throughout the New Year.
