Another year has passed, and most of us probably have a New Year’s resolution about changing or improving our look. Here are some easy steps on reinventing your image for this New Year. Sort out your closet. If you see clothes that you have not worn for more than a year, it probably means that it’s outdated unless it’s considered a “vintage” item. Get rid of your high waisted and/or light-colored or acid washed jeans. You also would need to throw away your pleated pants from years back. Sorting your closet creates more room for your newer stuff, and it will keep you from wearing those outdated items again.
After you sort out your closet, you can go shopping for your new wardrobe. You don’t have to spend so much money to look great. You can go to any clearance sales or perhaps some outlets where you can save more money on things that are just a season or so behind.
Look for something that fits you. If you are looking for a pair of jeans, opt for the bootleg cut or the straight leg cut. Go for a darker shade or vintage washed jeans that sit on your waist or just below it. The bootleg cut and the straight leg jean creates an illusion of a longer leg, therefore making you taller.
Add color to your wardrobe. If your clothes consist of black and neutral colors, you can still use them and add personality by mixing them with colors. Get some bright or vivid colored items like a sky blue shirt or blouse that you can wear with khakis or jeans. This not only uses your existing items but also adds some personality to them.
Skin care is probably one of the most important parts of having a new you. This new year, start taking care of your skin. Instead of using harsh body soap for your face, use a gentle cleanser . It will clean your skin without irritations, therefore lessening your chances of having breakouts. After that, moisturize your skin. When you wash your face, you take off the moisture and essential oils that your skin needs. A dry skin, specially on your face, has a higher probability of breakouts and oiliness. The reason for that is that if your skin lacks its essential oils, it has a higher tendency to overproduce its oils. That causes an oily face, which causes breakouts.
A great tip that I have learned is to apply your moisturizer while your face is still wet. It will lock in the moisture in your skin, while eliminating the excess oils. This might sound unorthodox but it works.
Hair: Look around. If you don’t see a single person with a similar hairstyle as you do or if you can identify your style from the 90’s or perhaps the 80’s, it is time to re-do your style.
Bangs are starting to be a hit with women. If you use hairspray to keep your bangs “up,” it’s time for you to stop doing it. Instead, use a lighter hair product like a texture paste or a hair wax and gently swipe your bangs to the side. This alone makes a great difference on your face, because the focus will be towards your eyes and your cheekbones.
Finally, for a new you, a new attitude will also help out. The best item that you can carry in your looks is your smile. Remember that a single smile can lighten up a room for hours.
