New course and progams for Office Info Tech

The RWC Department of Office Information Technology is now including one new course and two new programs among its offerings.First, there is a new on-line course for administrative assistants called Virtual Assistant Special Topics. This class emphasizes understanding the virtual assistant concept, business planning, establishing a web presence, specialty services, operating the business, and other topics as needed. The goal of this class is to create a workable virtual assistant for business and marketing. The course is offered totally on-line.

According to Diana Ennen and Kelly Poelker, authors of “Virtual Assistant, The Series,” “A virtual assistant, or VA, is a highly skilled professional who provides administrative support and other specialized services to businesses, entrepreneurs, executives, sales professionals, and others who have more work to do than time to do it.”

Prerequisites for the course include 45 words per minute keyboarding speed and coursework or working knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional or equivalent experience.

The Department offers a two-year Associate of Applied Business Degree, Administrative Management Technology, Virtual Assistant Option and an Administrative Virtual Assistant Certificate, One-year Certificate.

There are also two new programs in the Department: (1) Administrative Management Technology, Meeting/Events Planner Option, Associate of Applied Business Degree; and (2)Administrative Management Technology, Meeting/Events Planner Option, Professional Certificate.

The Meeting/Events Planner program prepares the student for the position of meeting/event planner and includes information on understanding the trends shaping the industry, developing timelines, checklists, and proposals. Understanding site selections, formats, and objectives of meetings and attendee expectations are some topics covered. In addition, students will create, market, plan, and implement events. A hands-on course utilizes the steps in development of a budget as well as developing decision-making skills and problem-solving issues pertaining to the industry.
