If you or any UC student you know is suffering from adjustment issues, anger, grief, stress management, family problems or identity issues, the UC Psychological Services Center is available to provide help. The Center is now offering confidential individual, group, and couples counseling for UC students. There are three therapeutic groups made available: the Social Comfort and Growth Group, Interpersonal Process Group and the Overcoming Depression Group.
The Social Comfort and Growth Group is for students who struggle with anxieties in relationships and want to increase social comfort. Each member will be given the chance to practice skills for social success in a safe and supportive environment, develop effective coping strategies, and share his or her experiences.
The Interpersonal Process Group is for students who have difficulties establishing or maintaining any type or relationship, whether it be with family, friends, or romantic partners. This group will help its members gain self-awareness, learn about their interpersonal patterns, and practice new skills.
The Overcoming Depression Group is for students with symptoms of depression. Each member will discuss his or her symptoms, discover ways in which depression impacts school performance and relationships, and learn healthy coping skills. Each support group offered is free and is open to all students.
However, if any students feel that they don’t have the time to attend any of these groups or have other issues that they want to discuss, the Psychological Services Center also offers Mental Health Emergency services between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and consultations with faculty, staff, and students in regard to other students.
The Psychological Services Center urges all students with emergencies during the evenings or weekends to call the Crisis Hotline at 281-Care (2273), 911, or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.
To schedule a pre-group meeting or learn more about any one of the groups, call 556-0648 or visit www.uc.edu/psc. This number is also available for any student with personal issues or concerns.
The Psychological Services Center has a professional staff consisting of psychologists, a psychiatrist, and supervised graduate students who are training to become psychologists.
