Fashion Fix 2006

I think we’re all about ready to get our spring wardrobe out of hibernation. The chilly season can have its charms, but there’s nothing quite as wonderful as that first warm breeze. Not all of us can afford to replace what’s in our closet every six months. With that in mind, here are some tips for keeping your look up-to-date.

Avoid the extremes; the classics should always make up about 75% of your wardrobe. That gives you room to pick out a few new touches to keep you au courant.

Denim–it’s here to stay, but that doesn’t mean all jeans are created equal. Styles have changed, even if the fabric hasn’t. Take a look at the new, trimmer straight-leg and cropped looks with deeper and darker washes. Denim jackets are tailored, cropped, and generally more grown up. We’re not in cowboy country anymore.

On to your feet, and the realm of footwear; just about the time you get up the nerve to try the latest thing, it’s over. That’s why it’s always best to replenish your supply of simple pumps and flats. The top trend for spring and summer trades stilettos for a wider, chunkier heel, but I’d hang onto the spikes; they’ll be back before you wear out your wedges.

Keep in mind that fashion doesn’t really reinvent itself every year as much as it recycles. Remember keep what works and only buy what you really love, and you will always take life’s stage in style.
